Efren Askew is a man with a curse; he’s a brilliant writer, but only writes in an alcohol-induced trance, blacking out for days at a time and remembering nothing afterward. As Askew’s celebrity grows and Hollywood begins to devour him, he comes face to face with the fleeting nature of fame.

Mostly Water (Craig Buchert, Jason Ludwig, Matt Stanton, Sam Varteniuk, and Trent Wilkie) is joined by a talented group of local performers (Dana Andersen, Peter Brown, Dave Clarke, Chris Craddoc
k, Jeff Haslam, Mark Meer, Davina Stewart, Dale and Syrell Wilson) who make cameo video appearances in a hilarious meditation on one man’s 15 Minutes of fame.

This one-act play with sketch-like elements is the latest offering from Mostly Water, a sketch comedy group that has been writing and performing in Edmonton for five years. When they aren’t writing for CBC Radio’s The Irrelevant Show, MW hosts Metro Shorts (an adjudicated short film competition sponsored by Metro Cinema) as well as Mostly Water Live @ the Roxy (part of Theatre Network’s Performance Series). Past Fringe hits include 1UP, How to Not Suck, Whoa Whoa Whoa, and Wetware, as well as I’m Sticking With Kiefer, part of the 2007-8 Indie5 Season.

Tickets are $21 and can be purchased at the door (the Roxy Theatre - 10708 124 Street, Edmonton) or $22.75 in advance by visiting tixonthesquare. For show details or to arrange an interview contact Sam Varteniuk at (780) 686-5960.
